Exactly. Hetalia is supposed to be satire. But not in an offensive way. Well I guess it is in an offensive way but not meant to be taken seriously. Many people complain about it being sexist because there aren't many girls and racist because there aren't any south american or african countries. Seriously I read a huge rant about why this person hates hetalia. Well the axis aren't really the good guys they are just the protagonist in the story but I understand why the person your arguing with would be confused about that.
I think it's a great idea, I think the characters are interesting, I think the metaphors are intriguing, and I think the scenes are amusing. I'm grateful for the lack of seriousness in it all because while it doesn't offend people, it also gives us all something to think about; what would it really be like if it wasn't all fluff and rainbows? It's good to find an anime without all those fight scenes, blood, out-of-this-world powers, or even a real plot! It's relaxing that way, apart from the giggle fits I get occasionally.
But there is one thing that just KILLS me... the FANDOM. I would not be kidding if I said it was packed full of yaoi, but you would know, wouldn't you? I'm not a fan of yaoi (but I don't hate it) and I'm quite annoyed at the amount of pictures people draw which are yaoi. I understand everyone has a right to share whatever non-offensive things they like, but I'm also stating my own opinion here. Still, it's unavoidable.
I used to sorta like it, the funniest parts are the little things they say to fast in my opinion, so it was pretty annoying to keep rewinding just to catch the jokes. I don't kind the guys hot, they're all pretty annoying and gay- seeming.(no offense) Despite all that, it's funny at times and teaches you history, so I would watch it if it werent for one thing. The. Fucking. Fans!!!! Hetalia fans are soooo obnoxious. Ignorant, desperate, clingy people, and Hetalia is all they talk about. It's made me despise Hetalia.
It is hilarious! xD Is random but sometimes has cute moments, not only because of the guys of course... And also it is a great way to learn history without sometimes even realizing! Hetalia is probably one of the funniest, random and smartest anime I've ever seen, you learn about wars, and countries independence and how they grown up, in a odd way, but you understand it. I love it!
But really, it's a hilarious show that entertains and educates. It's sort of like World History on crack. All the characters are stereoyped depending on what country they represent. It shows peple how o laugh at eachother and themselves without causing damage.
Most people are into Action animes with magical powers and kickassery and 17 gallons of blood shooting out of a human body from scraping their knee.
This is NOT that type of anime.
I am not going to lie, I do find some male characters rather attractive, but I'm a fan because of how funny it is.
I like it the way I do personally because I can relate to most of the characters in people (and myself) in my life. I love the flexibility of the story line.. sometimes I wish it would be more serious and focused on the horror of the history it talks about but other times I'm glad it has the humor that relieves me from a long day of stress. I think with Hetalia you either love it or hate it. If you asked me personally why I like the show so much it's not because there's hot guys in it, not because it's super popular (I actually often wish it wasn't so popular), it's not because it suggests yaoi/has it...it's because it just makes me happy. There's not much more I can say than that.. my friends and I love it. I understand and respect those who don't--I have friends who hate it and anime itself -- I don't love those friends any less than the ones who enjoy Hetalia. It's just another show really, sure the fandom is great but I think the original show is creative and enjoyable as well. This is just my opinion by the way and if you don't like that, I'm sorry but that's just how it is! Thanks for reading!
I used to be completely indifferent about Hetalia, but then my friends discovered it and became obsessed. I tried watching it, mostly for their sake, but after 5 episodes I was done. They didn't give up, though, and basically forced me to sit through the entire first season PLUS the movie. Add that to the constant jabber of them constantly talking about it 24/7, and I have been driven to hate it with every fiber of my being...
Long story short, it's not really the show itself, but the fandom.
I am personally guilty of shipping and fangirling all over the place, but I like that the episodes were short. It saves me a lot of time I just dont like how there were inaccurate references in history and made light of events that weren't, well...light. In my opinion, it could be worse.....
Ill tell U why....Bcuz of the HOT men in the anime, fighting, comedy, drama(not really), N no annoying Piece of Shet girls disturbing.Fangirls believe tht it can teach U history in a fun way N get 100% of Ur history test...Hetalia I dnt get it either too N why the eoisode changes the subject so fast it's like there's no story...But I believe bcuz of the HOT guys
I'm a random person, but I can tell you why I love Hetalia :3
Its probably the funniest damn thing I've seen in a while, I found Hetalia to be a real cheer up as my arguements with my parents were slowly turning me slightly suicidal ( I have depression DX) but, when I found Hetalia, I was laughing so hard, I forgot it all. Its also semi-accurate, and it got me interested into countries like Prussia and Belarus, so it brodaned my horizon.
I could give you an essay, but i hope thats enough :3
You don't need to hate on something just because YOU don't like it... But basically, slapstick humor like that isn't easily found in anime. People like slapstick humor- tell me, who are the most subscribed on YouTube? That's right, comedians. Personally, I think that if you're calling Hetalia... 'crap'... then you're calling any slapstick humor video 'crap' as well.
OMG it is because of this fandom, my great hate for yaoi is gone O.O! I hated yaoi before hetalia, and the fandom kind of just.... I don't know once your in there's no going back. So don't think I watch it for the fandom, cause really... I just live the show <3 and now part of the fandom which is kind of embarrassing
I am a really random person so it fits. It took me 12 episodes to understand it and my friend was near me the whole time to explain. It's hard to get used to the crazy order of the show. It's funny at times and I think it is the best way to learn European history.
It is so spontaneous and random that it makes it hard to watch. I nearly gave up but I had time to watch a few more and then I got into the "creepo/crazy" zone you need to understand it.
I don't know anything about fandom but I think much information is incorrect. I would just watch it more, and if you still don't like it well then others can enjoy.
ah well personally i'm just not fond of those really random and all-over-the-place anime's like Hetalia and Durarara... I seriously just don't have the patience to sit down and watch a number of episodes to understand it. It's probably just impatience on my part, but I still think Hetalia is over-rated. There are so many good animes out there that are better, srsly. :\
Instant fandom just add yaoi. that's my theory. though it's more like BL (boy love) here and there in the actual series. I guess it's just one of those things that just becomes a big hit without a clear reason why. though i do have to say this: please, please, PLEASE, do not judge the show until you have watched it. (I highly recommend the sub if you do decide to. dub isn't the best.) If you judge it based on the fandom, you will not get correct information 95% of the time. I sat this because there are so many people who do that and complain about it when they haven't even seen a single clip of it.

I think it's a really irritating series >m> biggest stereotypes ever
but I think it's popular because it's mostly men so little horny fangirls and ship so many of them. I don't have anything against boy love but good lord the little preteens shoving it down people's throat like it's a religion. AUGH.
